Climate and Clothing: The temperature is conditioned by the altitude. The hot lands of the Yucatan peninsula enjoy a tropical climate. Mexico City, on the other hand, which is situated at 2,225 m. above sea level, has a rather fresh climate with an average temperature of around 18º Celsius. It is advisable to wear fresh comfortable clothing made of natural fibers.
Health: If you are using any kind of medical treatment, do not check it in. Bring whatever you may need as hand luggage. As a precautionary measure, always drink bottled water. Be careful with the sun.
Food: The food is very spicy. The most extensively used ingredient is corn, followed by chilies, tomatoes and avocados. Enchiladas, tacos and tortillas are among the country's typical dishes.
Shopping: Shopping in Mexico is a real temptation. You will find craft shops the will remind you of the famous Mayan and Aztec cultures selling glassware, jewelry (especially silver), leather goods, rugs, religious art, etc. Bargaining is common practice in local shops.
Tips: Tips are not usually included in bar and restaurant bills. Tips of around 10% to 15% of the bill's amount are normally given.
